Who pays for the helper's flight home at the end of the contract?

We do our best to keep this updated as the rules change. Please cross-check with the relevant authority for the very latest details.

The employer. Under the Standard Employment Contract (ID 407), the employer is responsible for providing — or paying for — the helper's return passage to their place of origin at the end of each 2-year contract.

In addition, the helper is entitled to a paid travel allowance (currently HKD 100 per day for the day of departure) and any reasonable food allowance during the journey. If the contract is renewed, the helper is still entitled to a paid home leave with a return passage between contracts (commonly 7–14 days, by mutual agreement).

If the contract is terminated prematurely (by either side), the employer is still responsible for the helper's return passage, regardless of who initiated the termination.
