What is the Standard Employment Contract (ID 407)?

The ID 407 — the Standard Employment Contract — is the Hong Kong Government's prescribed contract for every foreign domestic helper. It is the ONLY contract the Immigration Department accepts for an FDH visa application, and its core terms cannot be varied.

What it locks in: • A 2-year employment term • Wages of at least the Minimum Allowable Wage announced by the Government • Free food (or the prescribed monthly food allowance) and free, suitable accommodation at the employer's residential address stated in the contract • Live-in requirement — the helper must reside at that address, and domestic duties are limited to that household • One rest day per week, statutory holidays and paid annual leave • Free medical treatment when the helper is ill or injured • Return passage to her place of origin at contract end, plus the termination procedures both sides must follow

Both parties sign before the visa application is submitted, and each keeps a signed copy. Side letters that try to reduce the helper's contract entitlements have no legal effect — if you need arrangements beyond the standard terms (for example extra allowances), record them in writing as additions, never subtractions.
