How do I make a claim on my helper's insurance?

We do our best to keep this updated as the rules change. Please cross-check with the relevant authority for the very latest details.

If your helper is injured or falls ill, act in this order:

1. Seek treatment first — for work injuries, keep every medical receipt and the sick-leave certificates. 2. Notify the Labour Department within 14 days of any work accident (Form 2 for general injuries) — this is the employer's legal duty, separate from the insurance claim. 3. Notify your insurer as soon as possible — most policies require notice within 14–30 days. Have your policy number ready. 4. Submit the claim form with: medical receipts, sick-leave certificates, a copy of the employment contract (ID 407), and your helper's HKID/passport copy. 5. Keep paying wages and medical costs in the meantime — the Ordinance requires it; the insurer reimburses you afterwards.

Common pitfalls: letting the policy lapse between contracts, forgetting the Labour Department notification (the fine applies even when the insurer pays), and missing outpatient receipts.
