Filipino domestic helpers are one of the two largest groups of foreign domestic helpers in Hong Kong. Many families choose them because most speak and read English well, which makes day-to-day instructions, school notices and medical appointments straightforward. Many have worked in Hong Kong, Singapore or the Middle East before, so candidates with experience in newborn care, childcare, elderly care and cooking for Chinese or Western households are not hard to find.
Hiring a Filipino helper involves paperwork on both sides. Besides the Standard Employment Contract (ID 407) and the Immigration Department visa application, the contract is verified by the Philippine Migrant Workers Office (MWO) in Hong Kong, and a helper flying in from the Philippines needs clearance from the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), including an Overseas Employment Certificate (OEC). A helper who has finished a contract in Hong Kong can often start sooner than an overseas hire, although she still needs a new visa for her new employer.
Whatever her nationality, every foreign domestic helper in Hong Kong has the same legal protection: from 3 October 2026 the Minimum Allowable Wage is HK$5,220 a month for newly signed contracts, plus free food or a food allowance of at least HK$1,236, a weekly rest day and statutory holidays. Helpers deploying from the Philippines generally need clearance from the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), which issues the Overseas Employment Certificate (OEC). The requirements are updated from time to time, so confirm the current rules with the MWO or a licensed agency before you sign.
The same as for every foreign domestic helper in Hong Kong: at least HK$5,220 a month for contracts signed on or after 3 October 2026 (contracts at HK$5,100 signed on or before 2 October 2026 are still accepted if submitted to the Immigration Department by 30 October 2026), plus free food or a food allowance of at least HK$1,236 a month.
Yes. A helper who has finished her contract, or whose contract is about to end, can apply for a new visa with a new employer. A change of employer in the middle of a contract is normally not approved by the Immigration Department except in exceptional circumstances.
