What salary should I offer above the MAW?

We do our best to keep this updated as the rules change. Please cross-check with the relevant authority for the very latest details.

Most employers offer between HKD 5,100 (the current Minimum Allowable Wage from Sep 2025) and HKD 6,500 per month, depending on the helper's experience, skill set (e.g. baby care, cooking, driving, elderly care), and the household's demands. Expect to pay at the higher end for a finishing-contract or transfer helper with strong references already in Hong Kong. The MAW is reviewed annually, so always check the latest figure before agreeing on salary.
