Can a male domestic helper take paid paternity leave?

We do our best to keep this updated as the rules change. Please cross-check with the relevant authority for the very latest details.

As of 30 October 2026, eligible male domestic helpers receive five days’ paternity leave per confinement of their spouse/partner, together or separately. The helper must be the father/father-to-be, work under a continuous contract and give proper notice.

Leave falls between four weeks before expected delivery and 14 weeks beginning on actual delivery. Notify the employer of the intention three months before expected delivery and confirm the leave dates; otherwise give five days’ advance notice.

Pay requires 40 weeks’ continuous employment immediately before each leave day and timely proof of fatherhood. The daily rate is four-fifths of average daily wages. Generally, submit the birth certificate naming the father by the earlier of 12 months after first leave or six months after employment ends; see official guidance for document exceptions.
