Indian domestic helpers are a small group in Hong Kong. Many speak English as well as Hindi or another Indian language, which can suit families who run the household in English, and some candidates have experience cooking Indian vegetarian or non-vegetarian food — useful for households that want home-style Indian meals. India has its own emigration rules for citizens taking jobs abroad, and what applies to a particular helper can depend on her passport category and where she is travelling from. A helper who is already in Hong Kong and has completed a contract usually has the shortest path to a new visa. Indian helpers are employed on the same terms as everyone else: the Standard Employment Contract (ID 407), a Minimum Allowable Wage of HK$5,220 a month for contracts signed from 3 October 2026, free food or a food allowance of no less than HK$1,236, a weekly rest day and the statutory holidays. Possibly — India's emigration rules depend on the passport category and the worker's circumstances. Our licensed office checks this for each case; a helper already in Hong Kong with a finished contract is usually simplest.
What is the minimum salary for an Indian helper in Hong Kong?
The same as for every foreign domestic helper in Hong Kong: at least HK$5,220 a month for contracts signed on or after 3 October 2026 (contracts at HK$5,100 signed on or before 2 October 2026 are still accepted if submitted to the Immigration Department by 30 October 2026), plus free food or a food allowance of at least HK$1,236 a month.
