Hiring a Thai helper in Hong Kong? Browse reviewed profiles, learn about Thailand's overseas-work approval, and know the wage and rest-day rules.
Thai domestic helpers have worked in Hong Kong households for decades, although today they are a much smaller group than Filipino and Indonesian helpers. Candidates typically speak Thai plus some English or Cantonese, depending on where they have worked before, and many bring experience in housekeeping, cooking and caring for children or older family members. Because the pool is smaller, it helps to start your search early and to be flexible on the start date.
Workers leaving Thailand for jobs abroad generally need approval from Thailand's Department of Employment, and the documents a helper must hold can differ between a first-time hire and someone renewing a contract or changing employer in Hong Kong. The exact steps are revised from time to time, so our licensed Hong Kong office confirms the current requirements for each case before you commit to a timeline.
In Hong Kong, a Thai helper is employed on the same Standard Employment Contract (ID 407) as any other foreign domestic helper, with the Minimum Allowable Wage of HK$5,220 a month for contracts signed on or after 3 October 2026, free food or a food allowance of at least HK$1,236, one rest day every week and all statutory holidays. On HelperDoc you can browse reviewed Thai helper profiles free whenever they are listed, filter by experience and available-from date, and message candidates before you decide.
