Considering a helper from Myanmar? See reviewed profiles, what home-country paperwork to expect, and the rights every helper has in Hong Kong.
Helpers from Myanmar are a small group in Hong Kong compared with Filipino and Indonesian helpers, but many have previously worked for families in Singapore or Hong Kong. Their first language is Burmese; English and Cantonese ability varies a great deal from one candidate to another, so read the language section of each profile and, ideally, hold a video call before you shortlist. Common experience includes childcare, elderly care and general housework.
Myanmar has its own rules for citizens taking jobs abroad, including registration and identity-card requirements for overseas workers, and those rules have changed several times in recent years. Whether a particular helper can be deployed from Myanmar, and which documents she needs, therefore has to be checked case by case. A helper who is already in Hong Kong and has finished her contract is usually the simpler route.
Once she works in Hong Kong, a helper from Myanmar is protected by exactly the same law as any other foreign domestic helper: the Standard Employment Contract (ID 407), a Minimum Allowable Wage of HK$5,220 a month for contracts signed from 3 October 2026, a food allowance of at least HK$1,236 if food is not provided, a weekly rest day and statutory holidays. On HelperDoc you can browse reviewed profiles free and chat with candidates, and our licensed Hong Kong office can tell you which paperwork applies before you sign.
It depends on Myanmar's current overseas-employment rules and on the helper's documents, which have changed several times. Our licensed Hong Kong office checks each case before you commit; a helper already in Hong Kong with a finished contract is usually simpler.
The same as for every foreign domestic helper in Hong Kong: at least HK$5,220 a month for contracts signed on or after 3 October 2026 (contracts at HK$5,100 signed on or before 2 October 2026 are still accepted if submitted to the Immigration Department by 30 October 2026), plus free food or a food allowance of at least HK$1,236 a month.
